With more than 16 years of experience, ORD has successfully implemented over 113 humanitarian and development projects across all 34 provinces of Afghanistan in partnership with UN agencies, international donors, and development organizations.ORD is committed to promoting sustainable livelihoods, social inclusion, resilience, and economic empowerment for vulnerable communities, particularly women, youth, and marginalized groups.Job DescriptionThe Metal Work Trainer will be responsible for planning, organizing, delivering, monitoring, and assessing metal work training under the REEP Project in accordance with the approved curriculum and project implementation plan. The position holder will perform the following duties and responsibilities:1. Training DeliveryDeliver theoretical and practical metal work training according to the approved curriculum.Prepare weekly and monthly lesson plans.Conduct practical demonstrations and supervise workshop activities.Train participants in basic metal fabrication and welding techniques.Apply Competency-Based Training (CBT) and adult learning principles, including hands-on workshop exercises, group practical assignments, and continuous assessment.2. Workshop Management and SafetyEnsure trainees safely use metal work tools, equipment, and machinery, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).Ensure effective workshop management and learning environment.Support verification of tools, equipment, and training materials before use.Ensure safe use and maintenance of tools and equipment.3. Assessment, Coaching and MentoringAssess trainee performance through practical and written evaluations, including a final competency assessment.Provide coaching and mentoring to trainees.4. Reporting and DocumentationMaintain attendance records and daily training reports.Prepare and submit the following deliverables: training work plan, weekly lesson plans, daily attendance sheets, practical assessment records, monthly progress reports, final trainee competency assessment report, and final training completion report.5. Coordination and MonitoringCoordinate with the Project Manager, Skills Development Officer, MEAL team, and TVET providers.Participate in monitoring visits conducted by ORD and UNDP.Participate in coordination meetings as required.6. Inclusion, Safeguarding and CompliancePromote equal participation of women and persons with disabilities where applicable.Apply safeguarding, PSEA, Code of Conduct, and occupational safety requirements, and ensure a respectful, safe, and inclusive learning environment.7. Other DutiesPerform any other duties assigned by the Project Manager or Skills Development Officer that contribute to the successful implementation of the training component of the project.Job RequirementsEducationDiploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Technology, Metal Fabrication, or a related technical field (preferred).National vocational certification in metal work/welding is an advantage.ExperienceMinimum of three (3) years of practical experience in metal work and fabrication.Minimum of two (2) years of experience delivering TVET or vocational training.Experience with Competency-Based Training (CBT).Technical SkillsBasic welding techniques (arc welding and other common welding methods).Metal cutting, grinding, and finishing.Metal measurement and marking techniques.Fabrication of simple metal structures and products.Reading basic technical drawings and measurements.Use and maintenance of welding machines and hand tools.Selection and safe use of welding electrodes and materials.Quality control of welded joints and fabricated products.Workshop organization and equipment management.Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety practices, including use of PPE.Ability to prepare training reports and documentation.LanguagesFluency in Dari and/or Pashto.CompetencyGood communication and facilitation skills.Ability to coach and mentor trainees.Commitment to safeguarding, protection, and accountability principles.
